New Opportunities, Inc. offers persons 55 and older the opportunity to have minor household repairs, yard work and housekeeping done for them at minimal expense. The CHORE Project for Elders currently operates in the following geographical areas:
- Central Naugatuck Valley Area
- Greater Meriden Area
New Opportunities of Greater Meriden and the Elderly Service Division of New Opportunities, Inc. provides housekeeping and minor home repair services to persons aged 55 and over in Meriden, Wallingford and in the Central Naugatuck Valley area. Examples of services provided are, but are not limited to:
Minor Household Repairs
- Installation of Safety Equipment
- Door & Window Locks
- Smoke Detectors
Yard Work
- Lawn Mowing
- Raking
- Hedge Trimming
House Cleaning
- Tasks which are necessary for the maintenance of a healthy & safe environment
Who is eligible?
Apartment dwellers, homeowners, and renters — persons aged 55 years and older who need assistance with housecleaning or minor home repairs in order to maintain a safe and healthy home. Persons who lack other means of obtaining services are particularly encouraged to use the program. Services are provided in Meriden and Wallingford.
What is the cost of the service?
Clients are asked to make a voluntary contribution for services based upon their income. You will be expected to pay for any materials used such as safety equipment, glass, locks or railings, which are installed in your home.

Call the CHORE Program at New Opportunities of Greater Meriden at (203) 235-0278 ext. 11; 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or call the NOW CHORE Project at (203) 575-9799, 8 a.m. - 12 noon. Services are by appointment only.
