In-The-Making offers jobs and job training to underemployed and unemployed women of potential in the Waterbury, CT area. The program is designed to help participants develop the work and living skills needed to become self-sufficient.
Department of Correction (DOC) Residential Program – (203)236-9990
Provides community based residential services to individuals referred by the Waterbury Community Enforcement Division/Department of Correction. Clients must meet the eligibility criteria for community release clients, as established by the Department of Correction. The DOC Residential Program emphasizes work release with a substance abuse component. All clients must be able to work full-time. In-house substance abuse services, including substance abuse monitoring, are supplemented by outside self-help and 12 step meetings. Residents pay weekly room and board. As warranted, contributions are also made to the State's Victim's Compensation Fund.
Jobs Now – (203) 236-9990
The Jobs Now Program provides basic employment directed services to persons involved in the criminal justice system. Clients receive referral to social services to assist with re-entry to the community. Employment assistance, referral for educational programs and other appropriate support services are offered to clients.

Workforce Development Activities take place at these centers in Waterbury, Torrington, and Danbury. Intake, assessment, and Individualized Employment Plans are developed for customers in need of employment services. The One Stop Operators also provide employment training programs, and youth employment programming.

The Self Sufficiency Centers provide a “no wrong door” approach to customer service and case management. Self Sufficiency case managers provide comprehensive intake, assessment, and follow up services designed to track customer progress and assist customers in moving towards self-sufficiency. Customers are also linked to appropriate community resources through information and referral services, which include application assistance for DSS assistance programs.
Bi-Lingual Training Program (203) 575-4397
A State Certified Bi-Lingual Nurse's Aide Program and Business Office Technology designed to provide job training and educational development services leading to unsubsidized employment. Training is provided by Kaynor Technical High School.
Prisoner Re-Entry Pilot Program - (203) 575-4239
This pilot program will allow the means for women inmates to connect to social services through the Self Sufficiency Center prior to release by referral from the Charlene Perkins Re-entry Center to thereby reduce the rate of recidivism.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) - (203) 575-4238
Free tax preparation services offered to families/individuals with household incomes less than $39,000. Sites are located in Waterbury, Meriden, and Winsted with volunteers staffing the sites. Volunteers complete a training course facilitated by the IRS. 1040 EZ and 1040-A tax returns are electronically filed at the site and direct deposit is available for customers with bank accounts.
