New Opportunities Inc. is asking businesses and nonprofit organizations in Waterbury and Naugatuck to participate in its 2011 Summer Youth Employment Program, which seeks to hire about 145 youths between the ages of 14 and 21.

A sample of jobs includes filing, answering telephones, light office cleaning, outdoor maintenance and classroom assistance. The youths will work 20 hours per week from July 11 through August 19 and be paid minimum wage.

There is no cost or liability to the participating employer, who will be responsible for on-site supervision, confirming weekly time sheets and evaluating performance. New Opportunities will pay the youth; its program coordinator will handle any on-site issues, including injuries and attendance.
