During the month of March, grocers, restaurants and banks across the region supported Meals on Wheels through participation in New Opportunities, Inc. annual “Buy A Wheel” campaign. Shoppers at the Terryville Adam’s Market donated $1,372 to the Meals on Wheels program; $5,396 at Adam’s of Watertown and $537 at its Thomaston location, making the grocer top seller in this year’s campaign. To date, the fundraiser raised $12,674. Proceeds support homebound seniors in the communities served by the participating business.

“The campaign was developed to help defer the rising cost of serving meals to homebound seniors who struggle to remain independent in their own home,” said Lisa LaBonte, senior nutrition services director at New Opportunities, Inc. “Many Meals on Wheels clients are no longer able to do their own grocery shopping or have limitations that prevent them from cooking for themselves.”

Last year the Meals on Wheels program served 1,390 homebound seniors over 387,930 home delivered meals in the central Naugatuck Valley region.
